Play Together - Program of Support
The PLAY TOGETHER Program of Support is a supported playgroup for children aged 2-4 years who may not yet feel comfortable in formal childcare or kinder settings and/or are waiting for OT or Speech support. The focus is on communication, social and play skills in a play-based group setting. Fine/gross motor activities will be provided as well as toys to encourage cooperative and shared play. Parents are invited to stay to work with their children in a supportive environment towards readiness to be in a shared space with other children and separation from parents to comfortably settle into childcare or kindergarten settings.
Group Goal:
· For children to become familiar with a small group setting and sharing resources with other children of a similar age and developmental level.
· To upskill parents on how best to support their child to remain regulated and communicate their needs during the session.
Expected Outcomes:
· Children will be able to remain in the same play space as another child and share resources for 5-10 minutes at a time. This outcome will be assessed via observations/discussions with parents.
Children will need to bring a bag with a change of clothes, nappies and wipes if needed, and a snack and water for snack time. Parents will be required to stay for the duration of each session.
